Questions and answers

What does the wave height mean?

It is the significant wave height: the average of the highest third of the waves. Single waves can be almost twice as high, so keep well away from coastal rocks when the waves are high.

What is chart datum?

The level that depths on nautical charts are measured from, roughly the lowest possible water level. High and low tide are given in metres above this level.

When are the tides biggest?

At full moon and new moon (spring tide). The moon phase is on the Northern lights page.

Can I swim on Senja?

Yes, but the sea is cold even in summer. Check the sea temperature above, and swim where it is easy to get out.
